Beyoncé Is...Sasha Nice

Posted Wed 23 Sep 2009 5:14AM NZST by Billy Johnson, Jr. in Hip-Hop Media Training

Beyoncé may be known as a "Diva," as she proclaims on one of the hottest songs on her album "I Am...Sasha Fierce," but it is her gentler alter ego that has been making headlines lately.

When closing out her Friday tour stop at the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia, Beyoncé dedicated her song "Halo" to a young girl battling leukemia.

For the first run through of the song that pays homage to a personal hero, Beyoncé acknowledged Michael Jackson, as she has done at previous concerts.

Afterwards, Beyoncé invited a young girl named Chelsea on stage, knelt beside her and asked if it was okay to sing her a song.

Beyoncé sang "Halo" while hugging Chelsea, and looked her eyes as she sang "I got my angel now," before resting her head on Chelsea's chest. She also added the child's name to the lyric, "[Chelsea] I can see your halo, you know you're my saving grace."

"There was not a dry eye in the house," Sydney's The Daily Telegraph reported about the 14,000 member audience.

Last week, Beyoncé also earned good girl stripes at the MTV Music Video Awards when she helped Taylor Swift recover from her run-in with Kanye West who interrupted her Best Female Video acceptance speech to say the honor was owed to Beyoncé.

The Kanye outburst left a shocked and embarrassed Taylor on stage at a loss for words. When Beyoncé received the Best Video trophy at the end of the night, she had her own "Halo" moment.

"Wow, this is amazing," Beyoncé said when receiving her award. "I remember being 17-years-old and up for my first MTV award with Destiny's Child. It was one of the most exciting moments in my life. So, I'd like for Taylor to come out and have her moment."

Taylor joined Beyoncé on stage, and gave her a hug, before offering her second run at of acceptance speech.

Good job Beyoncé.

I cried at that it was beautiful knowing she made that little girl's dream come true. Beyonce is in rare form lately it is good to see that she really is a very nice person can't say that for many singers.

Ever since BET and Alicia Keys and Wyclef won the MJ Humanitarian awards for their work in other countries I saw a gleam in Beyonce's eyes that said next year that is going to be me....the following day commercials of her partnering with Hamburger Helper to feed kids popped up not to mention she was dressed as an Angel singing Ave Maria at BET, Singing for the President....the charitable gesture toward Taylor Swift....It's as of she is being postured for people to remember Beyonce is not just a product....she is a person, she cares and she is inspired to do good!

Its a little spicious to me. First she showing her bold diva in sasha fierce now shes back to being nice. Is it all staged to make her look like a nice person? Or is she really starting to humble herself and starting to realize that it the heart people want to see?

Lot of hypocrits here. Makes you wonder what somebody has to do to be considered a nice person. Everybody makes mistakes, but let's judge her on the things she does and stop speculating about her motives. No matter what she does, to that little girl, Beyonce is and will always have a special place in her life.

I think that all of yall need to stop hating. It is amazing how we pull people down. No one is perfect and we all make mistakes. So what she said some things bad, don't you? So what makes you better than her. At least she is a postive role model for young women. She is a beautiful woman and I have all the respect for what she does. It is not easy being in the light and having to watch all you do and say. So back off and let her be and do you!! Grow up people!!

Uhm, why am i trying to watch the video at school, and i just bust into tears! she is so wrong for doing that, but God Bless B and evb else. We all make mistakes, and no one is above His judgement. What we all need to be doing is praying for a cure for cancer! Now that is something to blog about. Blog about people coming out of self, and doing good for someone else, not matter what you've done or haven't done! Amen!

I've been a musician for over 30 years and never had ever witness such an incredible act of kindness like that on stage in my entire life. That brought me to tears. Thank the "heavens above" Beyonce was born into this world of ours. She's truly on top of her game as an artist as well. :-)

i watched the video and I started tearing up!! WOW

LoVeLy C, you're just a little jaded. I've never been a Beyonce fan (her music is not my cuppa tea), but the one thing I HAVE always heard about her is that she is gracious and kind. I've never heard anything bad about her. I've heard about her generosity and sensitivity long, long before the VMAs. If anything, her kind gesture to Taylor only confirmed what I'd known about her all along...once again, not as a fan.

that is good. notice, however, that to have a conscience now a days is abnormal. this kind of stuff should be second nature.
