Belle & Sebastian, Framed

Posted Tue 13 Oct 2009 7:02AM NZDT by John Kordosh in Framed

Hello, readers, and welcome to yet another stirring installment of Framed. We're the weekly blog that takes a look at a popular music video and then deconstructs it with laser-like wit, often referencing riveting topical issues, to which we add a dollop of nuthin'-but-fun!

Plus, we have a talking bubble. You're certain to enjoy reading Framed every week!

We want to mention that we read and enjoy all of your posts, so please keep 'em coming. It's our goal to have posts that manifestly rule over the posts at other Y! Music blogs, so please do your part!

Regular readers know we like all sorts of music, and, in real life, we like this week's featured band quite a bit! Our guests are Belle & Sebastian, the great indie pop band out of Scotland, and this week's video is their uplifting "Dirty Dream Number Two," from 1998's The Boy With The Arab Strap album.

An "Arab strap," by the way, is a device that men sometimes use. For more info, guys, please ask your dads.

If you're new to the band, please be aware there is no "Belle" or "Sebastian" in the group. Those crazy Scots! They named themselves after a French children's book, Belle et Sébastien. And, despite a string of remarkably good records, Belle & Sebastian haven't had a lot of commercial success and aren't particularly well-known in the U.S.

Still, we think this may be the single most affable video we've ever had in our blog, featuring all sorts of people doing normal and not-so-normal stuff.  But having a good time!  Look it over and see if you agree, and then enjoy this week's captions, which are conveniently, as always, in English.

Important blog note! Well, everyone's still talkin' 'bout Framed. As they should, of course!

That "Taylor Hicks, Framed" of some months back drew the ire of a bunch of Katherine McPhee fans, one of whom had this to say:

"How can this actually be an article? His style of writing is worse than...well, anything I've read. Btw, before you think this is a praise Taylor article, you should read the whole article, it gets worse."

Thanks, McPhans!

And a Miley Cyrus fan said this about our last "Miley, Framed," which, as we recall, was quite good: "This particular post is only mildly amusing."

Thanks, Miley fans! And if you think that one was mildly amusing, be sure to be here next week, when another Miley appearance results in absolutely the funniest Framed ever written!

1 -- "I, the menacing Flowerhead, demand to be featured in all the blogs!"

2 -- "Whew! I thought she said she was taking me out for a wok!"

3 -- "I know it was you, Fredo. You broke my heart."

4 -- Not a dream! Not an imaginary story! Pumpkinhead, defeated by a mere slip of a lad!!

5 -- "Why, this will be the jolliest Christmas Gitmo has ever seen!"

6 -- "I will grant you a wish, mortal, but only if it involves chlorinating your pool."

7 -- Let's see, how should we word this?

8 -- "Yeah, yeah. I know, Gummo.  Pumpkinhead was defeated by a mere slip of a lad. You had to wake me up for that? Give it a rest, will you?"

9 -- Everybody's still diggin' the Creed reunion!

10 -- "Pumpkinhead may be defeated, but Hose-o is more powerful than ever! Where the heck's Gummo??"

11 -- Grandaddy's back--and this time, they're big!

12 -- But was humanity taking the declaration of war by the Little Plastic Army Men too lightly?!

It's okay, Karen. Apparently Pumpkinhead has some powers we are not aware of. He made me spell it Pumpinhead, in comment number one......Pumpkinhead, you will not remain omnipotent! (Shakes fist violently.) I have sent a messenger to seek out the help of Gummo, to permanently vanquish this dude with the head of a pumpkin. He is just as dangerous in his current state! Defeated? I think not!

Weird song with a weird video. Nothing special. Just people trying to be noticed . I looked....I heard....I left framed uninspired.

The Pumpkin had a festive feel. The rest is left to ones' imagination. What a job, do you need a partner???
