Bob Dylan, Framed

Posted Tue 6 Oct 2009 7:40AM NZDT by John Kordosh in Framed
We'd like to thank everyone for turning on their internet machines, and we also welcome you here to Framed, America's best blog.

God bless us and all we stand for!

This week, we welcome back folk singer Bob Dylan. Bob last appeared here in Framed #43, back in the days when Framed was really good...talk about water under the bridge! This time around, he's singing "Jokerman," a cut from his 1983 album, Infidels. The song is rich in imagery, and so is the video, which is simply loaded with iconic figures from history.

As great as Bob was--and is!--he was coming off a string of cranky Christian albums with Infidels, and sales weren't all that great.  As for critical opinion...well, at the time, famous rock critic Robert Christgau opined that Dylan had "turned into a hateful crackpot."

Dylan wouldn't really return to great critical and commercial success until 1997's Time Out Of Mind, but we think "Jokerman" is pretty good, and an important part of the Dylan canon.  Please feel free to post your thoughts on this important American musician so that other humans can read them!

Important blog note! Last week, for the first time in the history of our blog, we changed a caption at the request of the powers that be at Y! Music. Our original caption, which was over-the-top hilarious, was seen as a bit too adult for general distribution.

Since we respect--no, revere--the evenhanded advice of Y! Music, and like getting paid, we were OK with the change. We invite you, our ever-inventive readers, to imagine which picture it was, and the general drift of the caption.

They just better keep their hands off Gummo.

Next week: Indie Britpop, Pumpkinhead's fate and more!

1 -- Why, somebody should write down this fellow's story. It would make for a Good Book.

2 -- "And I also perform such hits as 'Stairway To Heaven.' But you must order now!"

3 -- "Forecastle? Dude, it's pronounced folksul. As a boatswain, I know these things."

4 -- Hey! If this guy was black, he'd look just like the president!

5 -- President Palin deeply regretted the tragic, accidental destruction of Levi Johnston's home, and the loss of the other trailers, too.

6 -- Hell also has the entire Creed catalogue on a continuous loop!

7 -- "That's one small step for a man, one giant hoax on the imbecilic citizens who think we've actually landed on the freaking moon."

8 -- Shalom! Framed is even better on Y! Music Hebrew!

9 -- "You know, boys, I haven't seen our old friend Dion DiMucci anywhere."

10 -- "Mr. Gorbachev, yo Mama's favorite food is seconds!'"

11 -- "My greatest albums? Well, there was Self Portrait, of course...Saved...Knocked Out Loaded...and Down In The Groove. Yep, that would be it."

12 -- "Observing Framed's readers through this high-powered instrument confirms they are indeed uniformly good-looking," noted Gummo, The Sentient Bubble.

Kordosh, please thank Gummo for his compliment. Thank God he was unable to see me. I would have runied it for everyone!! Well, back to my cave I go, to await yet another humorous and uplifting segment of "Framed"............. Do you know where one might purchase bat repellent?

What an intense and frightening video! I had better start living an honest and religious life, or doom is imminent. I will start being nice to people right around Christmas this year. Thanks for the warning, John!

Woody Guthrie looks either pissed or depressed in Frame 2!

This one MORE than makes up for last week's! 4 and 5 particularly struck me. This one ranks among the classics!

Kordosh, thank you for NOT disappointing Karen this week......Give yourself a hefty raise and an extra week of vacation! But, there better not be a repeat of last week's screw-up!

Frame 3: Someone should probably tell Ahab that whales, of any color, are rarely (if ever) spotted near Niagara Falls.

I don't know who that dude is in frame 4, but he looks kinda' disturbed and psychotic. We had better keep an eye on him. Something is just not right in his cranium.

9. Barb -
Listen up people," it is a shadowy world and the night is slipping away an you got to serve somebody" all great lines by Bob Dylan. Sorry it was me.

Karen: Good to know that we're back and better than ever. Your "Pumpkinhead" post was one of our all-time faves. We work hard to please you.

"Yahoo! Music User": Glad to keep you on the straight and narrow. Still, c'mon, you're going to hell.

Barb: Actually, that's pretty funny. We laughed out loud over here.

"Yahoo! Music User #2": Well, we know what we know.

Exciting alternative caption to this week's first picture: Having established capitalism, Jesus realized his work here was done!

John, if I am already going to Hell, then I guess it won't hurt to continue reading these Framed installments......Shew!! What a relief!!

As your fan club president, I am often asked: What does John do in his spare time? Well, we can only guess, but it looks like it is a toss up between Deisel Mechanic and torturer of small animals. But, we all certainly hope that you are not a counselor of wayward juveniles. My personal guess would be that you are also a chef at Benihana.

Well' President Obama cannot be compared to Hitler now that He got the big coveted Noble Peace Award. The new name in that frame should be John Gossilet!!!

16. David -
Man, that Hitler one was funny. Mayhap, too funny!
