And that's 2008

It's almost over and the results are in for the ultimate chart of 2008.

The last charts of the year take in the frenzied pre-Christmas rush and the hectic Boxing Day sales.

Volumes are still up and it's steady on top of all NZ's sales lists.

The late Billy T James easily outsells all comers on all charts. "The Comic Genius Of Billy T James" rules the albums roost for a third frame and is racing towards quadruple platinum status.

Tops on the other surveys are: Dutch violinist Andre Rieu comfortably ruling the DVD chart with "Live In Australia", "Now That's What I Call Music 28" clocks up another week and triple Platinum on the compilations survey while Lady Gaga's "Poker Face" spends an eighth week atop the singles list.

One list where there's a surprise change is the Radioscope 100, which measures airplay. Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" makes a seven-point leap-taking top honours to become the most played song on the radio.

The 26-year old Virginian Jason Mraz also makes it to number three on the singles chart as "I'm Yours" tees up to take out the pole position in the first chart of 2009.

It was a slightly slow start for the song here. In Australia it's still in the Top 40 after half a year having peaked at number three. Host album "We Dance, We Sing, We Steal Things" looks set to make the first albums chart of the New Year here.

Jason's debut album "Waiting For My Rocket To Come" made number 35, five years back while "The Remedy" spent four months in the singles list although getting no higher than number 32. Now the Mraz factor looks set to kick in big time.

There are two new entries apiece on the singles and albums charts respectively.

"The Year Of The Gentleman" is Ne-yo's Gold third album, which yields its third hit "Mad" new at number 26 this week. The cut gives Shafter Smith his eighth hit single in all here. Previously this year he's hit with May's number three "Closer" and September's number four "Miss Independent".

Going on Ne-yo's batting average "Mad" should easily make the Top 10, just as all his previous seven have. "Because Of You" made number one in 2007.

This year has been the year of Chris Brown singleswise in New Zealand.

He's spent 19 weeks at number one with a tally of three chart-toppers, including "No Air" with Jordin Sparks which is 2008's provisional number one single, while "Forever" is the joint-longest running number one for the year.

Its eight-week run is matched by Lady Gaga's "Poker Face" on the current chart. (The trio all feature in the year's Top 10).

Ending 2008 as he means to go on, the 20 year old drops in with his sixth debut of the annum, "Dreamer" new at number 35. It joins his other hit of the moment "Superhuman" (currently number 29) with Keri Hilson.

Swede Basshunter is 23-year-old musician and DJ Jonas Altberg. For the last couple of weeks his debut hit "Now You're Gone" peaked at number three. It slips to number six this week, but the album of the same name finally arrives fresh at number 33.

The title track is based on his original "Boten Anna" which topped the lists in his native Sweden, Denmark and in Holland; it features as a bonus on the album.

Another hit from the album "All I ever Wanted" is number 28 this week.

It's taken the Boxing Day opening of the Twilight movie to propel the soundtrack of the movie "Twilight" into the albums chart.

Available since mid November it opens at number 36. The human-vampire love story has been adapted from the Twilight book series, with half the soundtrack cuts written especially for the film.

One such tune - Paramore's "Decode" - made number 35 in the Singles list last month and rejoins this week at number 38.

All that's left to say is-Happy New Year! Enjoy your hogmanay.
